June 2011

We have no excuse for the lateness of this issue except we forgot what the date was. We were sitting in California with Mike and Mellyn and Marilyn suddenly asked, “Did we do a June newsletter? It is already the 10th of June! We quickly realized that we had not sent one out, so we had better scramble. Please accept our apologies for the lateness of this issue.

We are currently in Rocklin, CA to attend the college graduation of our grandson Christian from UC Davis, June 11.) As most of you know the trip was uncertain because on Wednesday Marilyn was diagnosed with pneumonia and acute bronchitis. When we explained our desire to attend the graduation in California,  the doctor began an extensive and aggressive  program  to get her able to travel.
Although she is extremely weak, we feel we are seeing improvement each and every day. Please pray for our return trip on Monday. Marilyn is not looking forward to the flight.

Glen, Christian, Marilyn

The graduation happened, and we were there! PTL! Our day included leaving Mike and Mellyn’s house at 7:00 am; driving one hour, winding our way via a golf cart and some walking to a very good seat where many thousands were awaiting the graduation which occurred at 9:00 am. After the ceremony, first we had to find Mike, Mellyn, and Christian and then drive back to Sacramento to have lunch. We arrived back home about 2:00 pm, and we all took a nap!

Dottie Noel

Marilyn and Sharon

The most difficult part of this past month was hearing that our dear friend Dottie Noel is now with Jesus. Dottie and Jack Noel became our friends when we met several years ago at America’s Keswick where Jack served for many years as a Chaplain at the Colony of Mercy and Dottie served as a faithful prayer warrior. Dottie and Marilyn were best friends at Keswick for several years. Dottie and Jack retired and moved to Lancaster, PA about a year ago. Dottie left very suddenly to be with Jesus on May 21. We will miss her daily.

We finally made it to Michigan to visit Marilyn’s cousin whose husband Al died in April. We enjoyed our time with Sharon, who misses Al terribly. Sharon and Marilyn got to shop a little in Shipshewana. We also attended a concert of gospel music and enjoyed dinner at the Blue Gate Restaurant. At the concerts they always have a drawing for a pie. At dinner, Sharon and Marilyn discussed what they should have for dessert for Sunday dinner the next day. All was taken care of when Marilyn won the fresh Coconut Cream pie! And it was delicious, too!

Kate, Deb, Matt, Caleb and Nate

We had a short stay in Kansas where we got to see Matt and Deb’s new, huge, and beautiful home. We also enjoyed hearing and watching our grandson Nate lead music at the church where he is now Worship Leader. It is always a joy to see our grandchildren  serving the Lord. Christian is the Director of Technology at his church, Kate has just been accepted for the Masters program in Social Work at Kansas University and Caleb will be a senior as a home-school student this year.

We also enjoyed hearing the California Baptist Choir perform two nights in a row and we even got to meet a student who had graduated from Arrowhead Christian Academy and had heard Marilyn speak!

We plan to return to Indianapolis on June 13, and then we will head toward Lancaster, PA on June 17 where we hope to visit the Bitlers and Jack Noel for a few days. We plan to arrive at America’s Keswick on June 27 and stay there until after Labor Day.

Thank you so much for your continued prayers for our health and safety.

Much love in Him,

Glen and Marilyn Heavilin
