JUNE, 2014

We know this is a little late, but Marilyn wanted to wait until she had had her visit with the Neurologist which happened Tuesday morning. Glen will give his report on the doctor’s diagnosis:

We now are dealing with three doctors. Each is tending to their part of the puzzle. Our Cardiologist is getting Marilyn back to a stable PT/INR after the interruption from her fall. Our primary care physician is working to get her hemoglobin level back up after the anemia caused by the internal bleeding. Our Neurologist is working to identify the cause behind why she is so susceptible to falling.

Marilyn has several new medicines. Some of them will be temporary until her body gets back to normal, Physical therapy seems to be helping her walking ability, so that is being extended. Among the several possible causes is Parkinson’s, so she is taking some Parkinson’s medicine to see if it helps. That is kind of a test. If it doesn’t help, then we can look for other problems. I can tell that our Neurologist is going to pursue the problem until she can identify it. We are blessed to have found someone who is willing to follow Marilyn’s diagnosis all the way to a conclusion.

Marilyn is slowly recovering from her fall. The bruising is mostly gone, but the pain and swelling linger on. Even though we did not receive particularly good news in the diagnosis Marilyn feels like a load is taken from her mind. There is definitely something wrong; she wasn’t imagining it. The doctor is very sympathetic and diligent, and that helps a lot.

We have had a lot of rain recently and strange weather but I have to remind myself that we are in Kansas, not California! We wake up each morning to discover that most nights it has rained in the night. That is so different from California where it seldom rains during the summer, but it rains a lot here. Now we understand the comment, “in case of rain.”

Erika's graduationAnother Heavilin, almost as of December 20, graduates from college. Matt and Deb had the privilege of driving to Joplin, Missouri to attend Erika’s graduation. Congratulations, Erika! We are so proud of you.

Kate at Texas borderOur granddaughter Kate is spending the summer in Texas working at a camp for special needs people. This work is part of her program to receive her degree in social work. She is in charge of several staff people. She talks to her mom and dad every night and is adjusting fairly well. She will be home for a week at the end of June and will return to Texas to work July and August.

Marilyn’s sister-in-law Karen needs special prayer the chemo seems to be working, but is very painful this time . Marilyn’s brother is considering using home care hospice for a while. Walt and Karen need prayerful intervention and guidance as to what they should do next. We are depending on you our dear friends for that prayerful intervention.

Thank you so much for prayers for our physical protection and safety.
