October, 2012

We started out on this journey on September 10. It was so hard to say goodbye to our friends at Keswick. For the two days prior to our pulling out, it seemed there was a constant stream of people coming by to thank us for our influence in their lives,  but we were not aware we had done anything special; we always felt we were the ones ministered to.  We will always remember the man who sat on our couch and with tears streaming down his face, he said, “I don’t want you to leave,” and the ladies who shared with Marilyn, “We will fly you back to New Jersey, or  we will visit you in California or wherever you settle.”

CRUISE SHIPS LEAVING BAR HARBOR

ACADIA NATIONAL PARK

We left Keswick and drove to Maine to visit Acadia National Park. What a beautiful place! Glen climbed Cadillar Mountain (all 1500 feet) to get a good view of Bar Harbor.

SUE THOMAS

Then we drove to Vermont to visit Sue Thomas who was the inspiration for the TV series, Sue Thomas FB EYE.  We loved seeing Sue’s property, Waterbrooks and the cabin without electricity or running water. Sue and Deborah have lived there each summer for several years. They now have electricity on the land, but intend to leave the cabin ‘as is’ to be used as a true retreat for pastors. Marilyn first met Sue in 1994 when they shared the platform together in Florida. Marilyn has been a fan of Sue’s ever since they first met.

BARRY and SUSAN

While we were in Vermont, we were also able to have dinner with Colony grad  Barry and his wife Susan.

NIAGARA FALLS

On this trip we have enjoyed seeing many friends, and we also appreciated the beauty we saw along the way. We visited Niagara Falls and toured the Erie Canal.

GLADYS and JERRY

We stopped to have lunch with Ernie Marsteller and his wife Robin. Marilyn worked for Ernie at a mortuary in Redlands. We also visited Marilyn’s Aunt Mickey, her late Uncle Bill’s wife, Elaine, her cousin Sharon and her brother Walt and sister-in-law karen. We also visited Marilyn’s cousins Jerry and Gladys who helped us celebrate Glen’s  74th birthday.

We plan to spend the next three weeks in the Indiana area, and then we will visit our friends Vicki and Wally and celebrate our 54th wedding anniversary in  Memphis on October 25. We will then visit our friends Reg and Glenda in North Little Rock on our way to Branson, MO. We plan to arrive in Peculiar, MO on October 31st. We will enjoy a visit and Thanksgiving with Matt and Deb and leave Kansas on November 25th. Then we plan to head toward California with a short stop in Arizona.

Marilyn’s sister-in-law Karen has been doing very well since prior to the wedding in July. Her CA 125 has continued to go down and get closer to normal. We are so grateful for your faithfulness in praying for her. Last Sunday Karen did have a setback. She became very ill during the church service which required a trip to the hospital by ambulance. The doctor feels Karen had two small strokes in the cerebellum which caused severe vertigo and necessitated several days in the hospital. Karen came home with a walker and she will be having several nurse visits per week. We are thankful that there appears to be no lasting damage from the strokes. Karen was able to continue her chemotherapy on Tuesday for which we were able to provide transportation. The program is still one week off in between the chemo treatments, so next week will be a non-treatment week. We ask that you continue to storm heaven on Karen’s behalf.
